MISSION STATEMENT
INTRODUCTIONS and ANNOUNCEMENTS

REPORTS:
ICIW Report – Warden Patti Wachtendorf or ICIW Representative
Treasurer – Rosemary Jungmann

PROGRAM/FOCUS:
We welcome Samantha Tucker, volunteer coordinator at ICIW, as our November presenter. Samantha started college as a young mom. She received an associate degree in criminal justice from DMACC in 2011 and was then hired by the Department of Human Services for Targeted Case Management. She was a social worker associate who managed the health and safety program. The jobs ranged from creating evacuation plans for all 32 offices in the state, to completing medical summaries for Medicaid consumers for the health home, also conducting safety assessments for children/dependent adults that were at risk of abuse/being abused in their current home.

Samantha started Iowa State University in the summer of 2012, took one semester before she realized Iowa State was not “working adult friendly”. She transferred to Kaplan University and graduated with honors with her bachelor degree in July 2013.

She began working at ICIW in April 2012 and loves her job. She is responsible for the volunteer program, safety for the institution, offender grievances and the backup for records. It is such a diverse job, she couldn’t imagine doing anything else.

RECAP OF OCTOBER 15, 2013 MEETING:
Paul Stageberg, Administrator of the Iowa Division of Criminal and Juvenile Justice Planning was our October presenter. He has been doing research for the state for 40 years, most of his professional career was spent analyzing the operation of the criminal justice system, primarily in state Statistical Analysis Centers (SACs).

He has served on the Board of the Justice Research and Statistics Association (JRSA) as an at-large member, Secretary-Treasurer, Vice President, and President. His interest in corrections research has led to the publication of numerous reports related to corrections and parole.

UPCOMING MEETINGS & PRESENTERS:
Our December 17th presenter will be Senator Jack Hatch, who will share his work on mental health legislation.

FIWP LEADERSHIP TEAM: There will not be a Leadership Team meeting following this meeting
