We use punishment as a deterrent and as retribution (an eye for an eye). We use rehabilitation to prevent recidivism and to honor each person&#8217;s humanity.\u00a0 Today the pendulum is slowly swinging more toward rehabilitation.\u00a0 We foster that in every way we can.<\/p>\n<p>We respect and honor the work of those who strive, either professionally or as volunteers, to help women who are in, or who have been in, our prison system realize their potential to live fulfilling lives.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Our Perspective For the past 200 years, the prison system in America has consisted of punishment and rehabilitation.\u00a0 The emphasis shifts back and forth over the years.
