Time For Change

Community-based corrections should be the first option for persons convicted of non-violent offenses (shoplifting, forgery, embezzlement, fraud, theft, drug  offense, etc.).

Expand Restorative Justice programming within the criminal justice system. (Restorative Justice views crime as a violation of both the victim & the community, and involves volunteers in the process of reconciliation among victim, family, community and offender.)

Increase the numbers of mentors, community volunteers & mediators that provide education and rehabilitation services for offenders, focusing on:

  • Parenting skills
  • Financial management
  • Job skill training
  • Drug/alcohol rehabilitation
  • Trauma recovery
  • Time management
  • Health & nutrition education
  • Circles of Support
  • Accountability Boards
