MISSION STATEMENT:
To bring together and inform individuals and groups concerned about women in the Iowa correctional system and to act on their behalf.

CALL TO ORDER AND GROUP INTRODUCTIONS:

READING OF LAST MONTH’S MEETING MINUTES AND APPROVE:

UNFINISHED BUSINESS:   N/A

NEW BUSINESS: 

  1. Monthly data from ICIW
    • 84 released and 74 admitted in September.
  2. Fresh Start Women’s Center:
    They are averaging around 600 field clients (probation and parole) with over 200 being parolees.  They are full operating with about a 4 week wait for work release/residential placement.
  3. Subcommittee meeting is going to form with agencies and correctional facilities with a focus on reentry. The goal for this group is to start meeting in November.

Volunteer Needs:
Volunteer needs continue to be for Library staffing.  Sign up sheet will be available for individuals to start filling in. Our groups focus is on Thursday afternoons.

PROGRAM  FOCUS:
Over the next several months, the monthly focus will be on reentry.  Each month, we will have a guest from an organization/facility that provides reentry for women leaving ICIW.

This month, our guest will be Teresha Allen from Prelude Behavioral Services/Bernie Lorenz House.  She will speak on behalf of the services that are offered to the women both at the halfway house and for women at the residential facility. She is the main contact and counselor for the 18 women at the halfway house which is located in the Drake neighborhood.
